Learning curve

I am always ready to learn although I do not always like being taught.

As I type this, I am editing my own remedial HTML. It’s been years, and it feels good (notice the italics). Granted, WordPress will only let you do so much, and as soon as I finish my certification in all things HTML (which will hopefully be either tonight or early tomorrow) I will attempt my first website in years with “from scratch” HTML and a little CSS. Then it is on to the CSS certificate…or maybe Java. I can’t decide.

Anyway, life has been quite hectic lately…searching for jobs, living space, furniture, money (Swagbucks is my new best friend…), and all the while reading “A Girlfriend’s Guide to Surviving the First Year of Motherhood” and getting kinda freaked out. But excited too. In a freaked-out way. :)

So many things are capturing my attention these days. We move into our townhouse (yay!) on Friday & Saturday, I have an ultrasound on Friday morning, and between trying to save money and learn about current events/causes my blogroll is overflowing. I’m excited to be in our new “house” and to set everything up…and then to settle down and do some serious (read: time consuming) learning & (hopefully) website-building. I’m hoping to pick up some freelance jobs after I finish all this necessary stuff…

Well I know I said I was planning on a post about spiritual abuse/manipulation, and I actually AM working on it, but there are so many things that demand my attention it may take a week or two. Thanks for reading, though – I really do enjoy writing once I actually do it. :-P

food for thought & upcoming topic…

I had planned to write a major post about the recent Chris Peterman & DoRightBJU happenings, and I wrote about 75% of it and then stopped. Maybe I will finish it…maybe not.

In the meantime I have something else I would really like to talk about….a more general topic – spiritual manipulation.

As soon as I get it all together I’ll post it here…please feel free to email me with ideas & info!

I quote from Darryl over at SFL in regards to the DoRightBJU protest a few months back:

“Be right, fundamentalist, wherever you are. But you can only be right until the stars fall. For in that latter day then shall the Judge of all the earth stand and deliver His final verdict on whether you truly did justly and loved mercy and walked humbly. There will be no more reasons or excuses or equivocations then. And unless you repent, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.
But there’s still today. There’s still this moment. You still have time. It’s not too late to do right.”

(This just in: DailyKos reports on Christopher Peterman story!)

-----

This is not a headline from The Onion. It happened to Christopher Peterman on Tuesday.

Here's what really happened.

In the late 1990's, a 15-year old girl was raped by a married man at her fundamentalist church in New Hampshire. She became pregnant. When the girl reported it to her pastor, the pastor had her publicly apologize to the congregation for her role in an adulterous relationship.

I usually stay out of things like this, but I can't ignore anymore. This is not an attack on the University or on their (however misguided or not) intents to please God. This is a defense of those who are trying desperately to DO THE RIGHT THING but are being painted as the villains. God is not a "respecter of persons" and every child of His deserves respect and "a voice". Not to be squelched or shoved under the rug for the sake of "saving face". This is real life. These are real people. This is not a game.

Baby Link

I want to make this for baby Link…but considering my track record of finishing knitting projects….the prospect is bleak.

Another thing I really want for baby Link is this amazing little onesie….but it’s expensive. I mean, I would probably keep it and like shellack it or something…lol

We will see…one way or another…this Link will be decked out for coming home from the hospital. What a lucky baby ;) ….(and you groan, thinking “poor child”).

At any rate we can’t wait to meet our little “hero” :)
